China is entering the final phase of amending Company Law of the People's Republic of China. On this issue, an international symposium was held from March 27 to 31 in Beijing, China with attendance of leaders and staffs from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, and members from our institute, the 21st Century Center of Excellence (COE) Waseda Institute for Corporation Law and Society; Professor Tatsuo Uemura, Director of the COE, Professor Yasuo Osaki, and Professor Etsuro Kuronuma. An executive Managing Director of Tokyo Stock Exchange also participated in the meeting at Japan side. China highly evaluated the significance of this research exchange with the COE, aiming to use the outputs of this symposium for the actual amendment of the Company Law. Li Fei, Vice Director of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China and Tatsuo Uemura, Director of the 21 COE Waseda Institute for Corporation Law and Society agreed to conclude a memorandum that both parties will have mutual research exchange continuously on amendments to Laws of the People's Republic of China.
After the symposium, the COE also had a brief research exchange with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, which was the regulatory authority of securities in China. They agreed to have research exchanges regularly among the COE, Tokyo Stock Exchange and the China Securities Regulatory Commission. A memorandum for this agreement will be also concluded in the near future.
