Research Collaboration with the National People's Congress of China
The 21st Century of Excellence (COE), Waseda Institute of Corporation Law and Society and the National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China have agreed to conduct research exchange on the amending of Chinese Corporation Law. To develop the new Chinese Corporation Law for the future expansion of Chinese economy, the two institutions have agreed to expand a long-term active research exchange. The two institutions and Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. have exchanged memorandums to that effect in December 2005. Such exchange can be considered as the most important cultural exchange for China-Japan relationship, the future Asian economy as well as the global economy. The results of the research will be significant and meaningful for all the related parties.
At the end of March 2005, our institute visited China to have a three-day full-fledged research meeting with the Standing Committee of the NPC to review the draft of the new Chinese Corporation Law just before the draft was officially proposed at the NPC. The result of this meeting was highly evaluated.

In July of 2005, the highest-level legislative officers of the NPC visited Japan to discuss with the related parties including Tokyo Stock Exchange. A fruitful discussion took place among the Chinese visitors and Japanese representatives.

In September of 2005, our COE members visited Beijing again to have a research meeting with the NPO. In two-day meeting, they had an active discussion on the concrete issues related to the Chinese Corporation Law.
Based on the fruitful results at the research meetings stated above, the COE Waseda institute and the NPO have agreed to exchange research memorandums. This research exchange agreements covers all legal issues, but when it comes to corporation, finance, and securities related issues, the research exchange also takes place with Tokyo Stock Exchange. It is a three-party agreement of the COE, the NPO and Tokyo Stock Exchange. Furthermore, the COE institute, China Regulatory Securities Commission, which is the highest organization of Chinese securities regulation, and Tokyo Stock Exchange have agreed to sign an agreement to conduct regular opinion and research exchange on the issues of securities regulation, public corporation system, and finance system. On December 7 of 2005, a signing ceremony was formally held at the Great Hall of the People with the participation of the highest-level representatives from the related parties. A banquet was also held after the ceremony. Japanese participants received a courtesy welcome. All confirmed the deep and continuous friendship between Japan and China.
